No hesitation about this one. Patty Griffin is in a class by herself. Is it any surprise I've already posted seven of her music videos on this site before today? (Well, actually, I was surprised.)
I've seen her twice in Portland. First, at an outdoor concert at Oaks Park in summer 2009 where she played with Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller as part of the "Three Girls and Their Buddy Tour." She opened the show with "Throw A Line" and then blew everyone away with "Heavenly Day."
Couldn't choose between the two, so posted them both.
Saw her again at the Crystal Ballroom on Easter Sunday 2010, where she unveiled her gospel-infused CD "Downtown Church." She was in town again last month with Robert Plant's Band of Joy but I missed that one. Can't get to everything.
Anyway, the power of this woman's voice astounds me.
