Honoring the elders

Alice Sumida
One of the loveliest stories I've had the pleasure to pass through my hands is the piece we featured on yesterday's Sunday Opinion cover. "Painting Portland history with a better brush, a bigger us"

Written by a longtime friend, Portland writer/lawyer/community activist and all-around good guy Polo Catalani,, and photographed by The Oregonian's Tom Boyd, the piece reminds us of the wisdom and accomplishments of our ethnic elders -- in particular those who have overcome discrimination and whose names would never turn up in a Google search.

The video is just beautiful. Such a seamless combination of images, sounds and narrated story. Check it out.
