Let's swing the pendulum back the other way, shall we?
Today's uplifting story about L.A. deejay Art Laboe, above left, comes to us courtesy of Esme Bermudez, one of my favorite people in the whole world. She's a former Oregonian reporter who left us last year to take a job reporting for her hometown paper, the Los Angeles Times.
In this piece, "At 84, Art Laboe's an oldie but still a goodie," she brings all her storytelling and skills to bear in describing the special place that this barely 5-foot-tall Armenian American man, a self-described loner, has come to occupy in the hearts and minds of Latinos throughout California and across the Southwest.
Note the attention to detail as Esme describes what's on his refrigerator door, where he lunches, what he drives, what liquids he keeps within reach at the studio.
The piece made me smile yesterday when I read it. I hope it does the same for you.
