Return to Orcas

Been away from the blog for several days. Part of it was me: Either didn't land on a topic that interested me (let alone any readers) or didn't manage my time well enough. Part of it was lack of internet access: We left Portland early Saturday to come spend a week at our cabin in the San Juans.

This is our second trip up this year and, even if we came up half a dozen times, it still wouldn't be enough. The daylong drive up I-5 and the ferry sailing from Anacortes eats up a lot of time, obviously, but it's always worth it, once we arrive on the island. Life does move slower here.

We spent the first couple of days at the cabin, then finally ventured downhill to Moran State Park and the always beautiful Mountain Lake trail, a four-mile hike on flat terrain bordering the turquoise waters, so still you'd think you were looking at a portrait. We brought Otto along and once again marveled that we can be in a place that is so restful and recharging for the soul.

Judging from these photos, one might guess why I'd rather than be making the photograph than being in it, front and center.

My favorite hiking partner: Lori.
