For all of the annoyances the rise of social media has introduced to the world, we've been privileged to get some pretty creative marketing initiatives too. And a new campaign featuring two SoCal companies aims to creatively change the way you shop, one iPhone picture at a time.
Pose, the Santa Monica-based social shopping app that launched in January, has partnered with contemporary mall retailer Metropark on an initiative that asks shoppers to snap photos of in-store merchandise that then gets displayed on screens at 69 Metropark locations nationwide.
Through May 6, just download the free app at Pose.com, visit any Metropark location (FYI, there's one at the Century City Mall as well as the Glendale Galleria) and take a photo of your shopping spree. Into a Kelly green Rachel Pally dress found on a rack? Capture it. Digging a pair of tortoise shell shades by Super? Put 'em on and take a pic. Then upload your findings to Pose and Tweet them with the hashtag #MetroParkUSA. Your goods are then blasted live on screens in each Metropark location throughout the land, giving you and your fellow shoppers a glimpse into each other's shopping bags without, uh, literally asking strangers what they're buying.
As if your turn as a very public merchandise curator isn't enough, you'll also be entered to win one of six $200 store gift certificates — the winners of which are chosen at random each week until the end of the campaign.
The partnership marks the first time a retailer has utilized Pose's API, and comes just before a scheduled relaunch of the app next month.
It's just one more way to be a fashion voyeur on the Internet. Type of cereal you ate for breakfast — thankfully — not required.
